Who's Rad? Gina Mendez.

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

We tend to say that a lot of skaters are badass, but Gina Mendez really is. She came back and kept charging hard after recovering from a skateboard accident that fractured her skull. No easy feat, because even after healing physically, your mind may go to places you don't want it to. This girl is not one to stay down for long. We are also super impressed that she has put on the "Festival de Cermeno" in Panama which has become an international competition.  There is seriously nothing this rad girl can't do!

Who's Rad?     Regina “Gina” Mendez

Age: 26

Home is?     Panama “my bed”

How Long Have You Been Skating?       Hmmmm, let me think 8 years

Girls Who Skate that inspire YOU?

Leticia Bufoni, Alicia Fillback, Cristina Mandarina and Micaela Wilson different styles but both are RAD riders.

Favorite place you've ever skated?

Well, first of all Israel I got to travel to skate for the Longboard Girls Crew new video “Open” and from the moment I got off the plane I fell in love with the place. Incredible hills and magnificent scenery. Obviously, California is also choice for bombing hills and great vibes.

Favorite Trick?

In techslide: roller coster, is like a nose blunt slide with a 360 inverted turn.

Freestyle: nose manual and big spin.

Loaded Boards, Orangatang Wheels, Triple8 NY, DC shoes (Store sponsor SUPER DEPORTES in Panama), Keeper Energy Drink and Dragao Crossfit.

Three Things You Don't Know About Me?

1. I can’t smell, I lost it in a head injury when I crash in DH against a car.

2. Every time I compete I must have a piece of gum.

3 . I'm addicted to horror films from the classics, the cult favorites and even the shitty new ones!!

What’s Next?

I’m going to make a new video, we have a new bowl in Panama so it’s going to be part of the new material I’ll be filming. I’m also waiting for the new Longboard Girls Crew movie (Open) and I’m going to make a weekly web program about skating, longboard and random stuff that I find amusing.

Make sure you follow Gina on Instagram @G_MDZ ,  & on Facebook

  1. I love longboarding: It's practical. I can go around in a longboard instead of using a car on some days. I'd like to see volleyball or baseball have some direct real life application (okay, the sports kind of have, you can run faster and whatnot but still! It's different from longboarding's practicality).

  2. Great article with excellent idea! Thank you for such a valuable article on such a interesting topic.
I really appreciate for this great information.^^
    Proud to world of girls.

  3. Active girls. Good pics and nice skills
