Katherine Beattie First Female Ever To Do A Wheel Chair Backflip - Insane!

You probably saw our post today about rad girls Katherine Beattie and Jamey Perry who we met by chance, at Venice Skatepark yesterday. Well, check out Katherine is this video from Woodward West and see what they have to say about this rad athlete.

Via Woodward West:

Katherine Beattie is an adaptive sports athlete for Box Wheel Chairs and WCMX. Katherine suffers from Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, also known as Spastic Tetraplegia, that affects all four limbs (both arms and legs). This does not stop Katherine's determination to come back to Woodward West and take another chance at being the first-ever female WCMX athlete to land the coveted and sought after backflip on her wheelchair. Using Woodward West signature foam pits and Resi she will be able to see it and feel it come to life. Will she make it? Check it out as she hucks her flip at one of the only places capable of making her dream come true.

Stay tuned here on the GN4LW site as we plan to do an interview with both Katherine and Jayme in the very near future!

Vert Attack X in Malmo, Sweden rocked!  The girls were fully committing and ripping so hard. If you missed the live feed to the webcast we had here on our site, you missed out. We think this was some of the best skating we have ever seen. They were all pushing each other hard and the jam session at the end was intense.

Final results were:

1st    Lizzie Armanto
2nd  Brighton Zeuner
3rd   Nicole Hause
4th   Allysha Le
5th   Poppy Starr Olsen
6th   Julz Lynn
7th   Jordyn Barratt

Huge thanks to  Vert Attack X, Bryggeriet Skatepark, Vans, John Magnusson, Wallen Media, and all the crew for putting on such a great event year after year and allowing us to host the live feed. More big thanks to photographer Joanne Barratt for shooting the girls practice sessions, prelims and finals for us - her pics were rad and we are stoked to be sharing them with you here!

Here' the history and additional  info about this awesome contest.

Vert Attack 10 year anniversary.

The idea behind Vert Attack was to create something unique for skateboard fanatics, especially vert lovers. We wanted to create an annual event where you could meet like-minded people and really enjoy a good vert session. Bryggeriet has always had a good vert ramp, a bit smaller with old school dimensions. A ramp that works for all kind of skaters.

When we started Vert Attack in 2006 vert skating only existed at the arenas and that’s were we saw the opportunity to create something that was for everyone, where focus wasn’t the prize money but more for the session and meeting of other skateboarders. At Vert Attack, everyone’s invited and it’s the people who make the trip and bring their passion to the comp that make it. Year after year they make Vert Attack what it is.

We have reached the tenth anniversary of Vert Attack. It’s been an amazing journey and each year has topped the last one. Vert Attack has grown to become something we couldn’t even dream about. We’ve had so many amazing skateboarders participating, legends like Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero and Christian Hosoi, women like Lizzie Armanto, Alana Smith and Julz Lynn, juniors like Evan Doherty, Tate Carew and Matty Carlisle and established and upcoming professionals like Sam Beckett, Jimmy Wilkins and Chris Russell. There’s been too many to mention basically but there’s still a few more riders on the wish list that we are hoping for this year.

Together with Vans we have set the stage for an amazing tenth anniversary, the greatest vertical freak show on earth, filled with entertainment in the form of live music, exhibitions, presentations and most important of all, the main attraction the Vert show.

Please join us in the celebration on the 31st of March – 2nd of April at Bryggeriet Malmö Skatepark and if you can’t make it over you can follow the web cast on Saturday the 2nd of April for all the final action of the festivities.
"How To Skateboarding" With Pro Skater Hunter Long.

Pro skateboarder and Hoopla team rider, Hunter Long has started releasing a new series called "How to Skateboarding" videos on her website. We love how she teaches the "rock to fakie" trick easily by telling you what you need to do, showing you and discussing it a bit more,  and then doing it herself. Great video to help you learn this trick!

Follow Hunter on her site to see when the next "How to Skateboarding" video is posted!
The Skater Girls Of North Carolina Downhill Rally Back.
Suez on the NCDH road trip  / Photo Phill Baldwin

About a month ago we received this letter, and we had to read it twice to fully understand that funding for a longboard skate trip had been pulled because 2 female skaters were going to be included. Read on and be prepared to smile after the stuff that will make your blood boil.

My name is Ashley Winecoff and I am I sophomore at Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

I am contacting you today in search of some help in way of support for a trip me and my friends at NCDH (check us out on FB and Instagram) are planning for spring break in a couple weeks. The trip consists of the NCDH crew renting a van and traveling through the blue ridge mountains skating the best roads they have to offer.

In the past this trip has been partially skater funded and partially funded by a local skate apparel company. However in the past this trip has been only boys due to lack of female downhill skaters but within the past year myself and my friend Suez Hogue have been graciously accepted and encouraged by the boys of NCDH and they were more than stoked to have us join them on the trip but the apparel company did not share this sentiment.

The owner of the company did not want to see girls on this trip so the NCDH crew chose not to accept the funds from him because they wanted us to feel wanted and included.

Later, the company ended up helping us out a little but not as much as they had given in the past. I'd like to say that in the end it worked out for the better because we were able to get other rad companies on board instead of just having one exclusive sponsor.

WOW. We were stunned and super proud of these guys who stood up for Ashley and Suez, so we asked Ashley to write a little something about their skate trip and get some rad pics of her and Suez that we could post. It's our small way of showing this apparel company that girls do have a voice and people are interested in seeing them skate.

Here is what Ashley had to say about the trip.

Two weeks out from Shine Run and I'm still stoked.

Suez said it best,  "It was an awesome trip to be on with such a wide range of personalities. Every person that you skate with adds something different to the experience and every new experience becomes somethings you've learned from. You can experience a lot in a week when you're shredding with some of the best skaters NC has to offer."

I only have good things to say about my experience. Skating with people with so much more experience means always having people to help you get better because they have likely faced the challenges you are facing and the NCDH crew is always stoked to help you get better.

This was my first skate trip and it has left me itching for more!

So stoked for these girls and love their story!

Leticia Bufoni is the new "it" girl on Canal Off's website. She's modeling more than skateboarding, but looks gorgeous just the same.

We often see fashion editorials with models posing with skateboards and we hear complaints that it's not "real" as the model most likely doesn't skate. Well, Leticia skates - that's for sure, and she holds her own here modeling like a pro.

You can see all of the photos of Leticia over at Canal Off
