Did you miss seeing the 5th Annual NY Women's Surf Film Festival 2017 in Rockaway Beach and Montauk this summer? If so, watch this short video and get inspired to live summer all year round.
It may be fall now in most places, but get motivated and plan a surf trip with your girl friends to somewhere sunny and warm, and keep the stoke going all year round.
You can thank Leticia Bufoni, Lacey Baker, Joisie Millard, Sarah Meurle and other female crews skating today, for this new Nike SB skate shoe that is not made on a mens last but contoured to fit a woman's foot - which means a narrower heel cup to keep your foot from pulling up and has more width where you need it most.
For years women and girls have been having to "make do" with modifying mens shoes to make them fit when pursuing their sport - but as of October 5, the wait for skateboarders will be over - that's the day that the Women’s Nike SB Bruin High will be released online at Nike.com and at select retail stores.
The shoe comes in 2 color ways at the moment - a nice light taupe as well as black. Grab a pair and get out and SKATE!!
Imagine never having to leave home to have a session with your friends or just try that trick you want to master anytime you want. Leticia Bufoni shows off her backyard skatepark & how it was built - and it's pretty sick.
Help B4BC kick off #breastcancerawarenessmonth by joining in on September 30th for a 19 mile skate-bike-roll along the sunny Southern California beaches.
Register HERE and start fundraising for a chance to win epic prizes from their partners Skull Candy, Arbor Skateboards, Paul Mitchell, Element Brand Pasbst Blue Ribbon and more!
There's more!! Did you know that Arbor Venice is hosting a kick-ass registration party complete with beer from Pabst Blue Ribbon, live music by Tunnel Vision and plently of raffle items! Come by Friday, September 29th 5pm-9pm to join the fun!
Nora Vasconcellos showing what scored her 1st place in last nights VPS World Championships
Brighton Zeuner was still on podium and took a well deserved 2nd place
Kisa Nakamura holding onto to 3rd place and landing on the podium again this year!
With rain falling down throughout the day, the contest kept getting pushed later and later - the girls had been sitting and waiting on rain delays for over 6 hours when they finally got a chance to drop in and compete for the VPS World Championships. And even with no practice time, it was still a battle to the finish.
Lizzie, Brighton, Nora, Kisa and Jordyn battled back and forth but Nora kept holding onto the lead. Young upstart, Grace Marhoefer from Florida - who is new on the circuit, put together a sweet run and scored an impressive 5th place - while competing against some of the best park skaters in the world. Jordyn Barratt found her last trick on the final wall to be elusive last night, and couldn't quite land it, but had she done so, the top 3 scores would have all been closer for sure.
It was a great contest to watch, congrats to all the girls who skated, and to The Boardr and Vans for once again putting on an epic event!

Get ready because if you thought that the battle that just went down at Street League was exciting, this comp may prove to be even more intense. 14 female skaters battling it out for the title of VPS World Champion.
Brighton Zeuner took it last year and we know she will be fighting to have it be a repeat again this year, but Hanna Zanzi, Jordyn Barratt, Kisa Nakamura, Lizzie Armanto and Poppy Starr Olsen will be right there deciding on the best strategy to make the finals, and what lines and tricks will ultimately land them on the podium.
But don't count out the rest of the field either, because upsets do happen - we've seen Bryce Wettstein and Nora Vasconcellos surprise us recently at the VPS contest in Huntington Beach with some strong runs that had the rest of the women stepping up their game..

Lacey Baker Wins the Women's 2017 SLS Nike SB Super Crown World Championships!
Final Results
The first surprise tonight was when Pro skater Nora Vasconcellos came on the screen as one of the initial commentators for the Women's 2017 SLS Nike SB Super Crown World Championships. We think it's great to finally see pro female skaters join the male announcers at these events. Nora knows these girls well and can add commentary that might otherwise be overlooked. So great surprise! Our only comment is we'd like to see MORE women involved and at least one doing commentary from the booth discussing each skaters run!
In round one, Samarria Brevard got things going with a flawless run - starting out with a kick-flip down the big set, Pamela Rosa & Aori Nishimura both fell on their first trick but recovered nicely throughout the rest of their runs. Mariah Duran also fell on her first trick and later fell a couple more times, but as Chris Cole said - "she has the tricks, she just needs to make them". Vanessa Torres had a bit of a rough first run with a few falls, but as usual, she had some great style. Alexis Sablone had a fall early on but recovered nicely and ended her run with a smith grind and a board slide right at the buzzer. Leticia Bufoni put together an awesome run and had just one fall towards the end, landing her in 1st place - for the moment. Last but not least, last years winner, Lacey Baker, dropped in and absolutely killed it with a flawless run with some highly technical tricks and took the lead away from Leticia.
Round two had Lacey and Leticia battling it out - Leticia had a flawless run and matched Lacey's first run score. Lacey fell straight off, but threw done some technical tricks to get her back on track and received a 6.7 which was just .1 higher than Leticia's first run score. Lacey edged back into first place with the slimmest of margins as all the skaters headed into the "Best Trick" section of the comp.
Best Run was the part of the evening that had you on the edge of your seat, the leader board kept changing and you never knew who was going to end up on podium. Now that's a great contest! Lacey lost her lead and Aori was now in second, Pamela Rosa was battling both of them to stay in the top three. Lacey then moved from 4th into second - with one run left for each skater. Mariah then moved into 2nd as we moved down to the final 3 skaters. Leticia kept her lead - which was a solid one - but at the very end Lacey scored an 8.7 to take the lead and win first place!
It was an exciting contest to watch and now Lacey is a 2x SLS Champion with back to back wins! Huge congrats to Lacey!!

The women were ruling the vert ramp in Nanjing, China during the Vert World Championships yesterday. These ladies made history as this was the first FIRS and IOC event for skateboarders since the IOC announced that park
& street skateboarding would be part of the 2020 Olympics. Even though vert is not slated as an Olympic discipline, FIRS and the IOC included it as part of the 2017 World Games this year.
Congrats to all the girls who flew out to China, competed and tried out this new "team" system - very different than how the girls normally train, travel and compete, but it is the standard as we move forward to the 2020 Olympics.

Vert World Championships Press Release From FIRS
This communication will provide our international membership with important details about the Skateboarding World Championship held during the Nanjing Roller Games.
The first-ever World Championship titles awarded by FIRS for Skateboarding will be for the discipline of Vert Skateboarding (halfpipe). At the exact location where skateboarding debuted in Nanjing as a part of the SportsLab during the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, a full-size vert ramp will be set up to serve as the “field of play.” The massive structure is 21m wide and 4.5m high, made from 22 tons of steel structure with a composite riding surface. This will be the stage for the best female and male vert skateboarders to contest the World Championships of Vert Skateboarding.
The event will unfold over a 4-day schedule beginning on Thursday the 7th of September. Registrations are available for 2 female and 2 male athletes from each member nation. In order to guarantee open and inclusive participation of riders around the world and field a comprehensive list of Vert’s elite athletes, FIRS will allocate Wildcards where needed.
More info on this event can be found in a previous GN4LW article HERE
You can find more info on riders meetings, practice schedules and more over at The Boardr
The new Vans x Karl Lagerfeld collection is on it's way and here is a sneak peek of what's coming. The 12 piece collection consists of tee shirts, a hoodie, a leather backpack, a bomber, a cap and 6 pieces of footwear - all in black and white. Some pieces have the iconic black & white checkerboard pattern as well. One of the tee's features Karl lagerfeld front and center cementing the tie in between skate brand and well known fahion house.
Before you dismiss this as just another fashion x skate collab, take a look at the way Vans maintained their authenticity throughout the collection, tying in classic pieces and intertwining new prints with looks that are reminiscent of styles from the 70's.
We think we could possibly see pro skaters like Lizzie Armanto and Poppy Starr Olsen rocking a few of these pieces and making the look their very own. Maybe as soon as the Vans Pro Park Series in China?
The collection drops September 7, prices range from $40-$300 and you can get it at Vans.com or Karl.com

We are so stoked to have awesome companies outside of skateboarding, like TomboyX, step up to sponsor female pro skateboarders to help them get where they are going. Hunter Long is off to the Vert World Championships in Nanjing, China next week thanks to TomboyX's sponsorship. That is pretty cool.
Have you checked out the video Hunter just posted on instagram skating in TomboyX? So rad!
Also make sure you check out Hunter's interview HERE on the TomboyX site, and while you are there, place an order for some of their awesome apparel. Let's all support companies who are supporting female skateboarding!
These 3 girls were killing it at the Vans Park Series Continental Championships in Asia this past weekend! Watch Kihana, Sky and Sakura throw down some awesome tricks in the park, these girls are RIPPING!
To say that 2017 has been a great year for pro skateboarder Nora Vasconcellos would be a huge undersatement. The girl is on fire, and we still have fourth months left in the year! She scored a spot on the Adidas team as the first and only female, she has been filming parts for some awesome skate films - did you catch her in Welcome Skateboards full length skate film, Fetish? it's a must see, so check it out above! Nora was on the Transworld Readers Choice Awards list, appeared on King of the Road, and just weeks ago she landed on the podium at the Vans Global Qualifier in Huntington Beach, qualifying her for the VPS Global Championships in China in September.
But there's more, and it's HUGE! Nora also just turned pro for Welcome Skateboards and we have to say that her new pro model is everything we love - the graphics are awesome! And, it is so Nora - absolutely the perfect pro model, and one that is sure to sell out. Nora also joined the The Stance team, as their first female skater and again that relationship seems to be a pefect fit for her. We love that Nora is seriously breaking down barriers and leading the charge in women's skateboarding.
Check out the new Hellaclips "Now You Know" video about Nora above, we think she may just become your favorite skateboarder.
