São Paulo, BRAZIL (June 24, 2019) – The Brazilian crowds went off the rails this past weekend at the second stop of the 2019 Vans Park Series Pro Tour, closing out a sensational ending that crowned local heroes Pedro Barros and Yndiara Asp as the winners of the VPS São Paulo event. Defending their home turf with pride, Barros and Asp not only proved their mastery of the São Paulo course design with power and precision, but also expressed deep gratitude for Brazil’s devoted support. Learning from each other throughout the years, the camaraderie between the two winners was an emotional moment for all to witness. Watch their winning runs here.

This was the second consecutive year Vans Park Series hosted its Brazilian stop at the built-to-spec legacy skatepark, donated by Vans in 2018 to the city of São Paulo and its passionate skateboarding community.

Winner Pedro Barros said to the fans, “Thank you to the Brazilian crowd, for sharing the real and true energy of skateboarding. With the vibe these people bring, this is skateboarding. We’re having fun, and it’s real. We gotta keep this going.” Asp also shared,

“I’m speechless. Here we have the best crowd ever. You give me the best energy, and I just want to skate the best I can for you.”

In the women’s division, Sakura Yosozumi, 2nd, continues her podium streak from China, impressing the judges with a mix of advanced tricks, while defending 2018 world champ Brighton Zeuner snuck into 3rd place, securing her place back on the podium after a 7th place finish in China earlier this year.

With two stops down and two more to go, the 2019 Tour Challenger rankings are shaping up in the race to the World Championships—the top five season-end rankings will earn their place in the field at Salt Lake City, United States this September. See the latest rankings updated below.

The semi-final results from VPS Women's park are in! Looks like it's going to be a packed heat full of talent in tomorrow's finals...

Defending World Champ Brighton Zeuner once again led the pack. Zeuner was driven to hit every wall with tricks for days, utilizing speed to her advantage, and keeping a sharp focus on her lines in every heat. Fueled by the adrenaline in the stadium, Brazilian Yndiara Asp placed second, establishing her ranks as one of the best in the lineup.

Last but certainly not least, the Brazilian presence was loud and proud, with new and rising VPS contenders battling their way through to make the Finals. Brazil natives Isadora Pacheco, and Dora Varella put down their best performance to make the Finals cut, securing their chance for glory in tomorrow’s gauntlet.

Vans Park Series Top Contenders Arrive in São Paulo, Brazil and the competition heats up this weekend at the Built-to-Spec Vans Skatepark June 22-23. Plenty has been written about this past weekend's Dew Tour in Long Beach, and if you follow our Instagram you saw first hand the HUGE and flawless 540 that 12-year-old Japanese skater, Misugu, threw down. It was the first Olympic qualifier for women's park so there was a lot of pressure on the women and new ways of doing things. And the skating was nothing short of amazing!

But instead of a blow by blow recap, we thought we'd run some inspiring photos we captured while there because sometimes an image speaks a 1,000 words.

If you didn’t know already, Shanghai is well on its way to becoming a skate capital, and last month’s Vans Park Series (VPS) tournament proved it. As one of four international qualifiers before the VPS World Championships are held in September in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Shanghai stop saw men and women of all ages compete in park terrain skateboarding including rising American skateboarder, Brighton Zeuner.

HYPEBAE caught up with Zeuner and local Vans sponsored rider 66 as they explored the Chinese megacity ahead of the tournament. Together, they traded thoughts on everything from their personal style inspiration to the rise of women in skateboarding and of course, their favorite skate spots in Shanghai – watch the video above to get the lowdown.

(Long Beach, Calif.) June 16, 2019 -- It was an action-packed day of legendary skateboarding on the final day of Dew Tour and the first-ever global Olympic qualifying event in the U.S. for men’s and women’s skateboard street and park. While the morning began with overcast skies, the sun came out shining down on some of the sport’s most talented athletes, in time for them to take center stage during the four Final events. After beginning on Wednesday with more than 300 skaters representing 46 different countries, only 32 athletes remained today, ready to throw down their best runs for a chance to take the Dew Tour win and valuable points for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Starting the day off was Women’s Street Finals, with the top eight from the week, set to go head-to-head. The skaters had two runs, plus five individual tricks, with their highest four scores counting. Taking a victory run on her final trick was 19-year-old Pamela Rosa (BRA), who had the highest total combined score of the day: a 21.40 out of possible 40.00. Rosa impressed the judges with tricks including a backside lipslide down the Boost Mobile rail, a frontside Smith grind down Boost Mobile rail and frontside nosegrind down the Hubba, securing the first place podium spot and back-to-back Dew Tour titles.

“I am so stoked to win again,” said Rosa. “I can’t believe it. This is the best day and I am so happy I was able to land the tricks I wanted.”

After pushing through an ankle injury, Leticia Bufoni (BRA) locked in a second place finish on her last trick, finishing with a 19.00, and Candy Jacobs (NED) finished up in third with a 17.90 with her first-ever Dew Tour podium.

Up next, eight more ladies took to the Park Finals, showcasing their talents in a best-of-three-run format. After an incredible display of technical skating and pushing the boundaries of progression, 12-year-old Misugu Okamoto (JPN) finished in the top spot, with a run complete with McTwist in the deep of pool, kickflip body jar to score a 63.16. Though she only started skating four years ago, Okamoto is already looking like a definite one to watch on the path to Tokyo 2020.

“It hasn’t hit me yet,” Okamoto said. “It doesn’t feel like I’m in the number one spot. I can’t believe it. I feel very lucky.”

Second place honors went to Lizzie Armanto (FIN) with a 55.00, and third to Kokona Hiraki (JPN) with a 53.06.

All we can say is if you didn't catch our instagram video of  Misugu Okamoto of Japan yesterday, it's a must see. This 12-year-old girl was spinning 540's so high that you'd gasp watching - and 9 times out of 10 she'd make them. Her flawless runs packed with back to back tricks, gave her a huge lead of 15 points from her nearest competitor.


(Long Beach, Calif.) June 13, 2019 -- The world’s top skaters and some of skateboarding’s biggest fans converged in Long Beach today as day the first official day of Dew Tour went off without a hitch. Being the first-ever global Olympic qualifying event in the U.S. for men’s and women’s Park and Street skateboarding, athletes stepped up their skating like never before, fueled by the opportunity to accumulate points required to make it to Tokyo, Japan in 2020.

During the Women’s Park Semi Final, the 14 skaters from yesterday’s Quarter Final joined 10 pre-seeded athletes from the last World Championship for a park showdown. With only eight spots open for Sunday’s Final, the ladies had no choice but to put everything on the line. When their three runs were all said and done, it was Misugu Okamoto (JPN), who made her way to the top spot scoring a 61.00 securing the lead. Brighton Zeuner’s (USA) skills also paid off, scoring a 46.00 for second and Sakura Yosozumi (JPN) solidified third with a 45.03.

In the Women’s Street Quarter Final today, the top 12 skaters from yesterday’s Open Qualifier met 18 pre-seeded skaters for a chance to be one of the 12 who move on to Friday’s Semi Final. Each skater had two 45-second runs, with their best run counting toward their standing. Candy Jacobs (NED) led the pack scoring a 46.13; Momiki Nishiya (JPN), came in second with a 45.60 and Alana Smith (USA) followed with 42.73.

We watched practice yesterday and the talent pool at Dew Tour for women's park was off the charts. So many girls from so many countries - great to see. This morning was Open Qualifiers for women's park with just 14 girls advancing to meet up with 14 more in the quarter finals - read on for more results and info!


(Long Beach, Calif.) June 12, 2019 -- The first-ever global Olympic qualifying event in the U.S. for men’s and women’s skateboard Park and Street events got underway today at the annual Dew Tour, in sunny Long Beach, California. This is the fourth consecutive year that Dew Tour has been held in Long Beach.

While the event doesn’t open to the public until tomorrow, Thursday, June 13 at 2 p.m. PST, the Open Qualifiers took place today to narrow the fields. More than 300 athletes, ranging in age from 10 to 28 years, representing 45 countries, competed in today’s competition. Men’s and Women’s Street and Men’s and Women’s Park Open Qualifiers were held, as was the Women’s Park Quarterfinals.

The street and park courses were buzzing with energy as new and seasoned pros from around the world dialed in their runs to earn valuable points toward their country’s Olympic skateboarding team. The Olympic qualification system is based on World Skateboarding Rankings maintained by World Skate, the sport’s International Governing Body. Skateboarders earn points by competing in World Skate sanctioned events during the Olympic qualifying period which started January 1 of this year and will end May 31, 2020. Dew Tour is part of the World Skate sanctioned Five-Star Street and Park skateboarding series.

During today’s Open Qualifier, three skaters per country registered by World Skate’s recognized National Governing Body (NGB) as well as event wildcard athletes, skated the courses in three-minute jam sessions in hopes of being one of the top skaters to advance to the Quarter Final round.

Dew Tour’s youngest athlete, 10-year old Sky Brown (GBR), took the number one spot in today’s Women’s Park Open Qualifier. The Women’s Park Quarter Final was also held this evening where the top 14 from Open Qualifiers joined an additional 14 pre-seeded skaters. Brown kept up her impressive skills and finished third, behind Lizzie Armanto (FIN) and Brighton Zeuner (USA). The top 13 seeds will now move on to tomorrow’s Semi-Final competition.

On the Women’s Street Open Qualifier, Nanaka Fujisawa (JPN) took the top score, followed by Funa Nakayama (JPN) and Haylie Powell (AUS) who earned the second and third spot, respectively. The top 12 skaters from today’s event join pre-seeded skaters in Thursday’s Quarter Final.

When Stumptown Coffee Roasters announced earlier this year that they had formed and sponsored a pro skate team, and that one of the team riders was badass street skater, Elissa Steamer, we were intrgued. But when they launched their mini magazine, BLOOM, and our friend and Venice Skatepark local, Jessie Frietze, was tapped to do Elissa's interview for the mag, we knew it was time to delve deeper.

Hey Jessie, can you tell us how were you picked to do the interview with Elissa Steamer?

Well, Stumptown recently became a certified B-Corp. One part of this new journey includes a commitment to invest in employee culture, and skateboarding has been a significant part of it's culture since the company's founding. Since the crew is pretty small, everyone has a good idea about each other passions outside of work, and my co-workers have always been in the know and supportive of my skateboarding. The idea was to let employees who skate interview one of the skate team members that they look up to.

Was this your first time ever speaking with Elissa?

Yes, I was pretty stoked that I got the opportunity to interview her. She was very down to earth, very real and had the tone reminiscent of 90s street skating, or what I remember of it, haha.

By happen chance, our LA Roasting crew also got an opportunity to host Elissa on her first coffee cupping when she was here visiting LA. That was a fun day to say the least.

What does it mean to you to have a female skater on the Stumptown team?


It’s pretty freakin rad if you ask me. I think my jaw literally dropped when I heard Elissa would be joining the team. Elissa is a skateboarding legend regardless of her gender. But personally, having a female on the team displays a true representation of what skateboarding actually is ...diverse. On top of that, it displays the creative role that companies can play in supporting skaters, ladies included, and demonstrates a commitment to actually investing in communities that the company is apart of. I think this move definitely leads the way for other companies and sponsors to follow suit.

What’s next for the Stumptown skaters?

The Stumptown Skate Crew just premiered it’s first skate video called Breaking the Crust, directed by a longtime barista and creator Tim Wenzel.

It’s a wild good time if you have a few minutes to check it out.






On another note, something I'm really pumped about is the Skate Team Coffee and the causes that it's supporting. The Skate Team Coffee was a combined effort to highlight creativity in skateboarding and showcase a beautiful coffee from producer partners in Colombia. A portion of the proceeds from the Skate Team coffee bag designed by Chet Childress will go to three skateboarding nonprofits, Exposure, Skate Like A Girl, and The Harold Hunter Foundation. Its available while supplies last.

The Skate Team Coffee is currently sold out for the season. But hopefully, we'll have this coffee or another fun skateboarding collaboration back in time for next Spring."

The Broadly Women's Skate series is back!!


In the first episode, Una Farrar and Breana Gearing are carving out the new wave of Vancouver street skateboarding. Broadly explores what ‘crew’ means for creativity in the city whose diverse and storied skate culture is founded on community.

We are stoked to say that GN4LW team rider Quinne stars on this season of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader"!! Quinne is a rad skater, but she is also super smart (did you know that she loves math & science and builds robots?) and that's one of the reason's she was chosen from thousands of young hopefuls to star on the show this season.

"Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" Hosted by WWE star John Cena,  is set to premiere on Nickelodeon on June 10 and will see a group of kids helping adults put their elementary school knowledge to the test.

Joining Cena this season is a rotating cast of 12 brainy fifth graders: Amira from Orlando, Fla.; Chloe from Queens, N.Y.; Colin from Dallas; Cooper from Porter Ranch, Calif.; Isabella from St. Cloud, Fla.; Jamir from Atlanta; Mia from New Orleans; Nick from Broomall, Pa.; Patrick from Lehigh Valley, Pa.; Quinne from Los Angeles; Saya from Peachtree City, Ga.; and Tristan from Aurora, Ill.

In an all-new format the show places kids in the center of the action, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader contestants must revisit the classroom to answer six questions on a variety of subjects from the first through fourth grade, before moving on to the final round where they must race against the clock to answer five questions taken from the fifth grade. Each time the contestants answer questions correctly, their bank increases with a possible winning of $100,000. Newly-added elements to the show include an additional “cheat” option and new ways contestants can enlist the help of their grade-school classmates
