Billabong is throwing it back the hey day of the 80's by introducing New Wave, a modern take on the iconic surf scene of yesteryear. Paying homage to the young days of Billabong, when the shorts were short, the bikinis were high, and visors ruled the beach.
But no longer are the girls just beach bunnies, bronzing in the sun and watching their honeys ride the waves. This time around, the girls are bold. And they are rebellious. Nothing and no one stands in their way. Rules don’t apply to them and they laugh in the face of fear. They are wild, they are free, and they are taking over the coast.

I-D along with filmmaker Ophelia Wynne step inside the world of Brighton, UK skater Rianne Evans as she recounts her journey from watching her brother skate, to hitting the streets herself in search of adventure, hanging with her skater friends, to falling in love with the subculture, to after parties with all her skater pals she has met along the way.
We love that Rianne also discusses the upcomng 2020 Olympics and what it means for girls (and guys) in skateboarding.
Meet Tanvi Jagadish, she is all of 18 years old and an inspiration to girls everywhere. Tanvi is the only female stand up paddle boarder and surfer to have represented India at the national and international level. The sport is still new in India, and girls and women face social disaproval for pursuing things that are deemed "for men".
The best part of Tanvi's story is that against all social norms, her grandfather is the one who encouraged her to try stand up paddling and encouraged her to keep going when others tried to shame her into stopping.
She is deeply committed to making this sport popular and more accessible in India, with the limelight on empowering girls and women to follow their dreams.
Tanvi's Tedx talk is well worth a listen!
At some point we were all beginners and stoked to get our very first skateboard. This new book by pro skater, Karl Watson, hopes to inspire future generations to become skateboarders as well. Illustrated by Henry Jones, we love that this book includes illustrations of girls at the skatepark - even though the main character is a young boy.
We are all about supporting skaters who pursue passion projects, and we think that this book is a great one for any young skater in your life!
You can order "My First Skateboard" book HERE
Check out Clqqng's new music video "Over When I'm Sober" (feat. King Deco) that features a group of female skaters including one of our fav street skaters, Meow team rider, Savannah Headden and Jenn Soto whose sponsors include Skull Candy, Nike SB, Primitive Skateboarding and Bones Wheels. The song/video is well worth a listen and a watch!
If you've missed what's been going on this past week, let us fill you in. But fair warning, this may take a while.
Pro street skater Samarria Brevard has been absolutely killing it this month. First the announcement that she was joining the Enjoi team (she's the only female skater on it!) to the next announcement of a Samarria Brevard Enjoi Pro model (available ---> HERE !) to the news that she joined Lacey Baker on the Bronson Speed Co. team. Oh yeah, she also can be seen in Panda Patrol - Epsiode 3 "Breaking Bad".
We are so stoked about all this , that we have compiled all the recent videos featuring Samarria here, so you can be late to school, work or whatever and watch them over and over. Well worth it. Promise.
Congrats Samarria!

Nike SB Bruin High Women's Shoe |
If you haven't grabbed a pair of the new NIKE SB's that are made just for women - you really should.
The new Nike SB skate shoe is Nike's first female specific skate shoe - what does that mean? Well for one, it's made on a women's last - which means a narrower heel cup to keep your foot from pulling up and has more width where you need it most. Plus Nike just added another new color way (our personal favorite) in the Nike SB Bruin High so in addition to black/gray and cream/black you can also get it in cream/red (pictured above).
Last but not least, when we see a major brand with pro female skaters on its team (Lacey Baker and Leticia Bufoni) it's time to step up and support.
Here are some other Nike SB options for women, if you prefer low tops. You can see all the color ways and the full range HERE
Check out Ryann Cannon and her sister Jade teaching you how to figure out your stance with this new Pro-Tec Basics video. This is something every beginner skater needs to learn before doing anything else - good job Ryann and Jade!
As the world continues to divide, in the Land of Skate people are uniting. Children and youth in countries caught up by conflict and inequality are being empowered through skateboarding.
The documentary produced by Ghost Digital Cinema, directed by renowned filmmaker Ty Evans and supported by Nimia was filmed on location in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa, and captures breathtaking shots and an often unseen perspective of these countries. It goes behind the doors of Skateistan’s Skate Schools worldwide for the first time, at which over 1,800 children and youth are gaining access to education and opportunities. It delves deeper into the inspiring stories of Latifa, Ahmed, Soso and Srey Pich who, despite living in difficult circumstances, have found a route to empowerment through skateboarding and education.
The Land of Skate explores how Skateistan has impacted the lives of children and youth in these locations but also how skateboarding has created a global community in a divisive world. Latifa, Ahmed, Soso and Srey Pich may be from opposite sides of the globe, but they are citizens of the same land, united by skateboarding.
Find out how you can support and join the global community at https://www.skateistan.org/.

Pride Socks and Sky Brown teamed up to create a special "Sky's the Limit" pair of socks that donates $5.00 from every pair sold to ISF, a non-profit that helps the educational needs of impoverished children in Cambodia. Check out the video above to get the full story and how you can help.
About ISF:
"ISF believes children have the right to a childhood where they can learn and flourish – but in Cambodia just 1 in 3 children finish primary school, and extreme poverty forces many to work from a very young age and prevents them from attending school.
Together, we can change that. We have seen hundreds of young lives transformed by our education programs, as children develop the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty. We have watched them find relief from their hardships through our sports programs, while gaining the education, motivation and determination they need to succeed in life.
Together, we can make a difference one child at a time."
Congrats Pride Socks and Sky!
Watch both episodes of History of Board Shapes via Transworld Skateboarding. Interesting stuff with Paul Schmitt and Chuck Hults.
Spoiler alert, make sure you check out what pro skater Nora Vasconcellos has to say in the second episode.
Team rider Poppy Starr Olsen stars in the INXS (popular 80's band you should definitely know) Mystify rekicked video, and she kills it. Perfect timing for Poppy's new edgy, short, white blond haircut to make it's debut. She's cool as shit in this video skating on a 80's Vision Psycho Stick (which was featured on the bands album back in the day) all over Sydney. The locations Poppy skates pay tribute to venue's the band played in their early days - some of which are no longer in existence.
Mystify was one of the popular songs from INXS's album "KICK" and Poppy is one of four talented people that are "rekicking" the most well known songs from the award winning album that's celebrating it's thirty-year mark.
Said Poppy; “As a big fan of the eighties, and its music, I was honoured to be asked to interpret Mystify in my own way.”

The biggest battle of the day was during the vert contest between Arianna Carmona, fresh off of winning a silver medal at the Vert World Championships in China, and Jordyn Barratt who has landed on the X-Games podium in park, twice in a row now. Arianna won that battle and took home 1st place and a check for $6,000 with Jordyn coming in a close second and Sakura Yosozumi taking 3rd.
As we moved into bowl, Jordyn was still on fire and showed the crowd smooth, consistent runs full of back to back tricks in every area of the bowl, landing her in first place and $6,000 richer for her efforts. Yndiara Asp and Arianna Carmona were also battling it out and took home 2nd and 3rd.
Many thanks to Amelia Brodka, Lesli Cohen & all the staff and volunteers at Exposure Skate for throwing a great event, The Boardr for their state of the art judging system, all the girls who came out and skated, as well as all the fans and OG's that came out to support them, and huge thanks to Joanne Barratt for shooting the comp and sharing these pics with us!
It was a great Exposure Skate 2017 - Congrats to all!!
