The World Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil, were a total nail-biter. From rain delays to who moved on during the women’s park quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, it was one to watch!

Mazel Paris

Team rider Mazel Paris was a standout during the women’s park qualifier - at just 12 years old, Mazel was leading the charge and in the number one position until almost the end of the women’s park qualifier! Such a huge achievement to make it to the quarter-finals and be in the higher scoring group of women. The talent is getting younger and younger!

Minna Stess

Team rider Minna Stess pushed hard, making it through the open qualifiers, to the semi’s, and then into the finals -and that’s not all! Minna had an epic second run and ended up landing on the podium, taking home 3rd for the USA.

Rain delays during the finals wreaked havoc on the women’s park event. After one run each and partway through the second set of runs (with only Sky and Arisa to go), the rain started (again). The girls started a game of Uno to pass the time while waiting to find out whether the event would continue.

Sky Brown

The “squeegee team” did an excellent job of drying the park quickly and Arisa and Sky were able to get their runs in. At this point, Sky was still in 1st place, and after her second run, Arisa was in 4th. But then the rain started again. The officials decided to call it and use the scores from the 2nd runs as the finals.

This meant that Sky Brown was in 1st, Mizuho Hasegawa took 2nd, and Minna Stess grabbed 3rd.

Congrats to all the women for showing up and pushing it further than last year!

Huge thanks to Lauren Brooke for sharing her amazing photos with us!

Congrats to Team Rider Minna Stess On Her Podium Finish at the World Championships!

Today’s World Championships from Rome did not disappoint! All eight women in the final were on fire, but at the end of the day, one American stood on the podium along with two Japanese skaters. At just seventeen years old, Minna Stess, from Petaluma, California, pulled off what no other American female park skater has done - she made the podium at Olympic Qualifiers. Minna’s third-place finish now makes her the highest-ranked American woman in park skateboarding, which is a considerable feat!

There was a lot of stiff competition from the Japanese skaters. Cocona Hiraki had three flawless runs, and Hinano Kusaki was able to bump Minna from second to third at one point, but no one else in the field could crack the 90s scoring-wise that these three had on lock. They were in a league of their own, and the crowd loved it! The only other American to make it to the finals was Ruby Lilley, who placed seventh with a score of 84.40.

It was an exciting event, and we hope you watch the replay and see how much women’s skateboarding has evolved in the past few years - simply amazing!

Congrats to all the women who competed today!
