Bryce Wettstein Joins The GEO Family As Style Director + Equity Partner.

Teen sensation and Olympian skateboarder to assume role of Style Director of GEO.

Bryce to release signature GEO clothing line.

LA based skate apparel company, GEO (aka The GeoMetro Party) has always been known for bold moves and they’ve just done it again by making 17 year old Olympic skateboarder Bryce Wettstein the brand’s Style Director.

The Encinitas high schooler who counts skate legends such as Tony Hawk as one of her supporters was already an avid fan of the “F

emale

Forward, Worn by All” brand and will now play an integral role in setting the tone for GEO’s products as well as stewarding its all inclusive, community-driven values.

The Team USA rider who earlier this summer was described by Forbes as an “era defying skateboarder” and “America’s next Olympic sweetheart” is clearly excited to embark on this journey with GEO and said the following:

“Being welcomed into the GEO Fam feels like coming home but I’m not surprised because that’s how GEO makes everybody feel. I can’t wait to begin this exquisite adventure”.

Australian born GEO co-founder, Charlie Cosser had this to add:

“Bryce was incredible at the Olympics and her authentic personality was shining through in all its rainbow of colors for the whole world to see. She has an effortless and unique style and is an artist both on and off her skateboard. She treats everyone with the utmost kindness, especially new and younger skaters who look up to her.”

Bryce will also be working on her own GEO signature collection which will be available to buy online through the GEO shop and also offered to the brand’s retail partners such as Urban Outfitters, Tillys, Dolls Kill and Eastern Skateboard supply (the largest skate distributor in the world).”

Check out the picturesque announcement video featuring Bryce skateboarding to a jazz piano rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in her backyard bowl sporting GEO’s staple Trash Can Cowboy t-shirt accompanied by a life-size installation of the infamous GEO trash can logo.

About Bryce Wettstein:

Bryce is a skateboarder and high school student from Encinitas, California. She is the 2019 Womens Park Skateboarding National Champion & 2021 podium winner for USA National Championships for Women's Park format and been on Team USA’s inaugural skateboard team for three consecutive years, since 2019. She recently skated in the first ever skateboarding Olympic games, the Tokyo 2020 summer Olympics in 2021, where she made the Womens Park final and earned a bronze medal at the 2021 Summer X Games Park skateboarding. She has been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, Forbes, Glamour and People Magazine as well as the ABC, NBC, KCRW, ESPN and the Jimmy Fallon Show for Kids. She is now the Style Director and an equity partner in GEO (aka The GeoMetro Party) a “female-forward, worn by all” skate apparel brand. While not skating, Bryce loves to surf, play volleyball and write songs which she plays on her ukulele, published on Spotify.

Korean Skateboarder Has Her Sights On Paris Olympics.

If you haven't been keeping an eye on the next generation of Korean skateboarders -you should. Skateboarding in Korea is getting stronger than ever, especially among the younger generation. In fact, all 6 skaters who qualified for the national team were teenagers!

Meet Cho Hyun-ju and Im Hyun-seong, the 14 year old skaters from Team Korea.

Cho Hyun-ju is currently ranked number 1 in Korea for women's street/park. She joined the national team at age 11 and has moved up the ranks. Her practice sessions last from 5-10 hours per day. The obstacles the team faces are great - there is not one International standard skatepark in Korea currently,  so the national team must train at parks where other kids skate - which sometimes have ramps with holes in them that are mot repaired qiuckly. They watch videos on YouTube to gain ideas and knowledge of how to do tricks they want to learn. And they keep practicing hard.

When asked how long she wants to keep skateboarding, Cho-Hyun-ju answered "until I am a grandmother." 💗

Marbie Princess In New VICE Video.

VICE just put out this video on Marbie Princess!

The world of skateboarding can be a very scary place if you’re not a straight cisgender male. From trick names to how products are marketed: sexism, racism and homophobia are deeply entrenched within the culture of skating. VICE News meets with skaters that are doing their part in the decades-long push to make skateboarding a more inclusive space for for women and the queer community.

Please feel fee to share your photo on social media - we just ask that you please credit @ianloganphoto and @girlisnota4letterword - thanks!

The 5th Annual Venice Ladies Jam kicked off Saturday AM under unseasonable warm weather, but that didn't stop the girls from skating hard and having fun. The sky was clear, the sun was out and everyone was having a blast meeting up with friends they hadn't seen in a long time.

Girls came from as far away as Las Vegas and the Ladies Day Jam played host to not one but THREE Skateboard Hall of Fame Inductees!  Gale Webb, Vicki Vickers and GN4LW founder Cindy Whitehead were all in attendance to cheer on the girls, help judge and take photos.

Every girl that skated was cheered on by her peers all throughout the day. One young girl was trying to drop in and received huge encouragement from the skaters her age "that she could do this!" ultimately one of the judges jumped into the bowl and helped her put her nerves aside and drop in, to the cheers of the crowd!

We have to thank all the support this event was given this year, not only by sponsors in the skate industry but also groups like Girls Play LA,  Angel City FC, and the City of Los Angeles.

We say this every year, but it is so true... The best part of this event is seeing so many girls come out and skate, meet one another, form friendships and they now have a group of girls to continue skating with throughout the year. That's what keeps these girls progressing.

Huge thanks to the City of Los Angeles, Mike Bonin LA City Council, LA Recreation and parks, Venice Recreation Center, Venice Art Walls, DJ VRSA, Skate Park Association International, Heidi Lemmon, Lance Lemond, Kimi Kallman, Bart Saric our fabulous announcer, Lonnie Hiramoto, all the judges and volunteers, the photographers who covered the event, as well as the numerous sponsors who sent so much product that the  girls went home with a big bags of swag.

Hope to see everyone again next year!

Exposure X Premiere Photos.

All Photos @ianloganphoto

The Exposure X video premiere took place on Saturday night at The La Paloma Theater in Encinitas, CA, and it was a blast!  So many girls from all over the world submitted parts, and the skating was insane. The evening started with a panel moderated by Exposure founder Amelia Brodka and included panelists Jamie Reyes, Lisa Whitaker, and Lizzie Armanto - great to hear about Lisa and Jamie's experiences in the early days of skate videos and hearing Lizzie talk about doing "The Loop" was so good. Thanks to Exposure Skate for a great evening!

Winners and videos are on the Exposure site!

Get Your Tickets To The "Exposure X" Video Premier!

Jordyn Barratt at Exposure 2016 / Photo Ian Logan x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word

The famous and historic La Paloma Theater in Encinitas will be teaming with female skaters next Saturday night. On November 6th the theater will become the site of the premier of Exposure's feature-length skate video, titled “Exposure X,” featuring 150 top female skateboarders from across the world.

The winners of each category will be highlighted during the event and awarded a total of $55,000 in prize money!

Tickets are just $10 and go on sale on Monday, November 1st on exposureskate.org.

Since it started 10 years ago, Exposure’s annual women’s benefit has grown into one of the largest skateboarding events for amateur and professional female skateboarders. Proceeds from the fundraiser, presented by Core Hydration, will go to the local nonprofit Community Resource Center’s domestic violence shelter, Carol’s House.

In past years the event is a live showcase featuring street, vert and park disciplines. Last year, because of the pandemic, the event included video parts and 230 female skateboarders from 23 different countries submitted curated compilations of their best skateboarding tricks.

This year, participants across age divisions submitted individual, two-minute videos for Independent Best Video Part Transition and Santa Cruz Best Video Part Street.

Krux Best Crew offers a division focused on three or more skateboarders coming together to show progression and camaraderie. The Impala Skate Rising Award recognizes skaters who work to make a difference in their communities. Those with standout tricks are honored with the Independent Best Trick Street and Skatelite Best Trick Park awards.

The event will be judged by legendary female skaters Jaime Reyes, Elissa Steamer, Vanessa Torres, Alex White and Olympic skateboarder Amelia Brodka, co-founder of Exposure Skate.
