Finland’s Heili Sirvio Shines, Wins First X Games Gold at Just 14

The youngest competitor in the field, 14-year-old Heili Sirvio of Finland, made a massive statement in the Women’s Skateboard Park final—claiming her first-ever X Games gold medal. Adding to the bronze she earned at Chiba 2024, Sirvio now holds two X Games medals and a fast-rising reputation. Her second run which earned her the win with a score of 86 included many exciting tricks including backside and frontside 360s over the box, alley-oop frontside air over the hip, and more. “I feel really stoked,” Sirvio said, beaming. “I actually can’t believe it! This is so insane to me. These are all my best friends that I get to skate with, and it was a really fun time.”

Japan’s Cocona Hiraki, 16, brought her signature smooth, technical style to the park once again, securing her third silver medal in Salt Lake City with a score of 83.66. The two-time Olympic medalist now boasts five X Games medals over just eight appearances since her 2019 debut.

American fan favorite Bryce Wettstein, the veteran of the group at 21 years old, returned to the X Games podium for the first time since 2022. Wettstein’s joyful and expressive skating earned her a hard-fought bronze—her second—during her milestone 10th X Games, scoring 82.66.

Australia’s Arisa Trew, 15, came into the final with a chance to extend her jaw-dropping gold medal streak to five and claim her eighth gold overall. Despite a valiant effort, Trew finished sixth. But with two more events still ahead this weekend, she’s not out of the running to break the tie for most women’s gold medals in X Games summer history—or to add even more hardware to her name.

Women’s Skateboard Vert Final - Hasegawa Takes First Gold, Snapping Trew’s Golden Run

Mizuho Hasegawa entered X Games Salt Lake City with three silver medals—and left with her first gold. The 14-year-old from Japan broke through with a flawless final run, ending Arisa Trew’s golden streak. Opening with a stylish judo 540, Hasegawa kept the momentum going with standout tricks like a kickflip Indy and a fakie nose grab 360 to earn a 91.66 and the top spot on the podium. “I was so happy to see the crowd was so excited for my run,” she said. “I had such a good time.” The win marks Hasegawa’s fourth career X Games medal—and her most meaningful yet.

Australia’s Arisa Trew, chasing her eighth gold medal, put together a strong final run to claim silver with a 90.00—her first time not topping the podium. The two-time Olympian landed a body varial 540 and a textbook kickflip Indy to pull herself up from sixth place.

Germany’s Lilly Stoephasius earned bronze with an 82.00 in Run 1, highlighted by a finger flip Lien to tail and a clean backside noseblunt to Indy grab-in—marking her first X Games medal.

Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Street - Covell Nails Longest Winning Streak in Women’s Skateboard Street History

Chloe Covell (AUS) delivered another masterclass in street skating at X Games Salt Lake City 2025, claiming her fourth career gold and third straight win in the discipline. The 15-year-old Aussie phenom posted a commanding 90.66 in Run 2, lacing together a technical and stylish line that included a kickflip frontside boardslide off the bump to bar, nollie kickflip over the bump to bump, and a frontside nosegrind down the handrail. With this win, Covell ties Elissa Steamer for the longest winning streak in Women’s Skateboard Street history. “I’m most proud of the back noseblunt,” Covell said. “The crowd gets behind me, which makes me skate my best and try my hardest. I’m having so much fun.”

Japan’s Yumeka Oda came out strong in Run 1 with an 88.33, landing a frontside bluntslide on the bank to bar and a clean kickflip backside 50-50 to secure silver—her fourth career X Games medal following a bronze at Ventura 2024.

Rounding out the podium, 17-year-old Jessica Ready of New Zealand made the most of her surprise debut as an alternate, earning bronze with an impressive 83.66. Her standout tricks included a nollie frontside kickflip, a fakie Smith stall to kickflip out, and a smooth backside flip off the bank to flat.

Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick - Arisa Trew Makes History with Kickflip Body Varial 540

The Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick contest brought the heat in a 20-minute jam session, where skaters had multiple chances to land their most progressive tricks. Australian teen Arisa Trew, who had already earned silver in the Vert final earlier in the day, stunned the crowd by landing a kickflip body varial 540—becoming the only woman ever to land the trick in competition. She had pulled it off once in training, but doing it under pressure sealed the win and secured her eighth X Games gold medal—the most of any woman in X Games summer disciplines.

“I think it's really cool knowing I can inspire girls or just anyone in general to keep skateboarding or what they love doing in any sport is to accomplish something, said Trew. “Since I started, I’ve been skating with these girls–and we have the best time together!”

Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa, who had topped the podium in the earlier Vert contest, swapped spots with Trew to earn silver. She delivered a stylish and difficult alley-oop varial kickflip Indy on her fourth attempt, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most technically gifted skaters on the scene.

Rounding out the podium, 12-year-old Canadian prodigy Reese Nelson continued to impress in her X Games rise. She earned bronze with a smooth switch kickflip to boardslide on her second attempt, proving that she’s not just the future of vert skating—she’s already making her mark.

Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Street Best Trick Final - Covell Strikes Gold Yet Again

Chloe Covell continued her dominant run at X Games Salt Lake City 2025, claiming gold in the Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Street Best Trick Final just one day after winning the Street Final. At only 15 years old, the Australian phenom added a second gold to her Salt Lake City haul—and fifth career X Games gold overall—bringing her total medal count to eight. Her winning trick: a technical frontside nosegrind nollie flip out down the handrail, backed by a long 50-50 grind to kickflip out on flat-down in Run 4. “I just put my everything into it and the crowd gave me energy to really commit to my trick,” Covell said after her win.

Thirteen-year-old Japanese rider Ibuki Matsumoto is on a roll, securing the silver medal with a clean kickflip backside lipslide in Run 1, later impressing judges again with a kickflip backside 50-50 grind in Run 6. This is Matsumoto’s second X Games medal this month–she won a bronze medal in the Women’s Skateboard Street event in Osaka last weekend.

Fellow Japanese rider Yumeka Oda, known for her powerful, consistent skating, earned the bronze for her stylish kickflip frontside boardslide in Run 3, adding to her four other X Games medals, all earned in the past year.

X Games Osaka Saturday Results

Osaka, Japan – June 21, 2025 – The start of back-to-back X Games events, X Games Osaka began today with six competitions from the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan. The first day of events saw teenage skateboarders dominate the Vert and Street courses, and BMX riders putting on a show in the Park course. Japanese stars Rim Nakamura, Asahi Kaihara, Juno Matsuoka, Miyu Ito and Ibuki Matsumoto all shined on the first day in front of the hometown crowd.

Women’s Skateboard Vert Final
Women’s Skateboard Vert made its debut in Japan to open X Games Osaka on International Go Skateboarding Day. All eyes were on two-time defending Skateboard Vert gold medalist Arisa Trew as she dropped in with a chance to tie Leticia Bufoni’s record for most X Games women’s skateboard gold at six.

Arisa cruised into the final alongside Osaka locals Asahi Kaihara and Juno Matsuoka and Australian Mia Kretzer. Arisa’s second run included an Alley-oop flatspin 540, judo air, stalefish, backside 540, kickflip Indy, Madonna, Indy 360, switch McTwist, frontside Cab stalefish, nosegrind to fakie, half-Cab front noseslide for 86.77. Asahi and Juno rounded out the podium, each earning their second X Games medal.

Women’s Skateboard Street Final

In a field stacked with Japanese talent, it was Australian Chloe Covell who nailed a 90.00 with her first run of the final to earn her third X Games gold medal. At only 15 years old, Chloe has been unstoppable since Chiba 2024. Chloe’s winning run was highlighted by a kickflip manual on the 36-foot long plexiglass roof that made the crowd go wild.

Miyu Ito successfully defended her Chiba 2024 silver, staying podium perfect in her first three X Games appearances. And 13-year-old Ibuki Matsumoto stunned as she landed on the podium after being a late addition to the competition.

X Games did not disappoint! Watching the women skate like we have never seen before, made our heart sing. The field gets younger and younger and that is not a bad thing. These young girls and women want this. They don’t feel the need to do the same tricks that they’ve seen other female skaters do for years and years. They are pushing the boundaries and soaring past preconceived expectations. For this new wave of female skaters, there are NO limits.

From 1st time X Games competitor Shilo Catori, who has been skating for just fours years and made the women’s street finals, to Chloe Covell who had flawless runs in women’s street and went on to win gold, it was a great morning! By the afternoon when women’s vert (yes, it’s finally back at the X Games!) started and the women and girls were shining bright, it was a full on proud moment when I knew that girls and women in skateboarding are going to be all right. These women’s comps are no longer the after thought or fillers, they are becoming the main attraction. It took us from the 70s until now to really see it, but it is finally happening!

Thanks to all these girls and women for pushing skateboarding so far!

Women’s Skateboard Street

The action got underway Saturday morning with the women of Skateboard Street competing first. Australian Chloe Covell surprised everyone with her third and final run to take gold. Covell’s winning 45-second run included: Frontside nosegrind on bar, heelflip down 4-block, frontside 5-0 on picnic table bench, switch kickflip up step-up, frontside 50-50 kickflip on the big out-rail, frontside 50-50 kickflip from 10-foot long out-rail. At 13, this is Covell’s first gold medal, and solidifies her as the youngest X Games Women’s Street Gold Medalist.

“This is very overwhelming,” Covell admitted right after winning gold. “I’m super stoked, X Games is one of my favorite contests to compete in, and all the other girls did great– I’m just so stoked!” she beamed.

Rounding out the podium were Japanese riders, Liz Akama and Momiji Nishiya, who placed second and third respectively, and scored within one point of each other.

Pacifico Women’s Skateboard Vert

The pint-sized 13-year-old Arisa Trew, who hails from Australia, stunned the crowd at Pacifico Women’s Vert by stomping a massive last run. She went alley-oop backside air, McTwist, frontside air, body varial 540, lein varial, air to fakie, switch frontside air, fakie frontside 360, air to fakie, to fakie Weddle 720. This 720 was the first to be landed in a competition, however, Arisa also holds the title of the first woman to land this trick. She first did so after the clock expired in the Vert Best Trick contest at Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert in June.

“I feel amazing, because I really just wanted to do my 7 in my run, and I did it!” an emotional Trew admitted about her win. She went on to say that this X Games win is motivation for her to continue to push her skills, and has her sights set on stopping a 900 in a contest one day soon.

Reese Nelson, the youngest X Games competitor to ever win a X Games medal, at just 10 years old, claimed silver, while Asahi Kaihara claimed third.

Section Z + X Games to Introduce Young Females to Skateboarding

Ventura, CA - June 14, 2023 - X Games California 2023 will celebrate women’s skateboarding in several ways during the event July 21-23, highlighted by the addition of the first-ever Women’s Skateboard Street Best Trick competition and the return of Women’s Skateboard Vert for the first time since 2010. X Games will also celebrate women’s day on Saturday, June 22.

Over the past decade, women’s skateboarding has progressed exponentially, with stars like Sky Brown, Rayssa Leal and Leticia Bufoni gaining global fame. With Skateboard Park and Street joining the Olympic roster for Tokyo 2020, more qualifying events have been added to the competition season, which has only pushed the level even higher.

In 2023, Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert will serve as a qualifier for the X Games California 2023 Vert competitions, with the podium finishers earning an automatic invite to Ventura. The women’s field for the June 23-24 Vert Alert includes many familiar faces like Bryce Wettstein, Arisa Trew and Grace Marhoefer who all compete in the Park discipline at X Games as well. A longtime Vert skater and proponent of women’s Vert skating, Sky Brown will also be invited to compete at X Games.

After hosting Men’s Skateboard Street Best Trick competitions since 2019, the Women’s discipline will be added for the first time in 2023. Athletes like Rayssa Leal, Olympic gold medalist Momiji Nishiya and trick master Yumeka Oda will compete in the discipline.

Since 2007, all women’s skateboarding disciplines receive the same prize purse as the men’s disciplines.

X Games and Section Z will partner to help grow the sport of skateboarding among women by providing access and exposure for a diverse group of local females at X Games California. Section Z’s mission is to expose young female athletes to live sports by reserving a dedicated section at professional sporting events. At X Games, they will bring 200 female high school students from the LA area to X Games where they will take in live competitions, participate in learn to ride sessions and interact with female athletes and executives to show them what is possible for women in sports.

X Games will celebrate Women’s Day at the event on Saturday, June 21 with female athlete autograph signings, female-only learn to ride sessions, gift bags for the first 300 women entering the event and more.

X Games California 2023 tickets are available now at XGames.com. In addition to general admission tickets, X Games offers several hospitality and experiences which include meet and greets, behind the scenes access and more.

WOMEN’S PARK PODIUM RESULTS

Gold - Cocona Hiraki - Japan

Silver - Ruby Lilley - USA

Bronze - Yurin Fuji - Japan

We can’t say that this X Games was an uneventful one. From a 5.4 earthquake that struck Chiba, Japan in the early morning hours (while the skaters were still sleeping) to a rain delay that ultimately forced the women to use the prelims as their finals. There was a lot to contend with. As per usual, the skaters did it with style and grace. Pushing their hardest for great runs and cheering each other on. If you were up in the early morning hours - it was a great contest!

With seven of 15 skaters hailing from Japan, the Women’s Skateboard Park Elimination saw X Games Chiba 2022 silver medalist Cocona Hiraki from Tomakomai, Japan earn her first-ever X Games gold medal. Hiraki’s run bested the rest of the field by more than 10 points, with a run that focused on speed, style and technical difficulty. The only skater to hit the flat bar rail feature, Hiraki’s backside nosegrind was the best in the competition. American Ruby Lilley earned her first X Games medal with silver and Chigasaki, Japan’s Yurin Fujii rounded out the podium in bronze position. Fuji’s opening trick was the best of the competition, a backside 360 over a huge box jump

WOMEN’S STREET PODIUM RESULTS

Gold - Rayssa Leal - Brazil

Silver - Momiji Nishiya - Japan

Bronze - Rizu Akama - Japan

Brazilian superstar Rayssa Leal opened the day by successfully defended her X Games Chiba 2022 gold medal. Her first run score narrowly beat out X Games 2022 gold medalist Momiji Nishiya, who hails from Osaka, Japan. Both Leal and Nishiya landed backside lipslides down the 14-stair handrail, the biggest rail on the course. Both just 15 years old, the two have combined to win eight of the last nine major women’s street contests around the world. X Games rookie Rizu Akama from Aomori City, Japan earned a bronze medal with technical tricks that impressed the judges, including a Barley grind which is almost never seen in women’s competition.

Starting off the day in Women’s Skateboard Street, Japan’s Momiji Nishiya upgraded her X Games Minneapolis 2019 silver medal to gold on Sunday – earning her second Skateboard Street medal in three X Games appearances. Nishiya secured the win with her first run, landing a bigspin frontside boardslide, Suski grind on the ledge, backside disaster on quarterpipe, frontside feeble grind on the eight-stair handrail, heelflip, Smith grind on quarterpipe, frontside 5-0 to front-shuv it, frontside salad grind on the five-stair handrail. Australian Chloe Covell took home silver in only her second X Games appearance and as the youngest competitor at this year’s competition at just 12 years old. Yumeka Oda won her first-ever X Games medal, taking bronze back to Japan, respectively.

X Games Women's Skateboard Park Was Insane - Watch the Recap Here!!

First off, with a field of just ten women competing in X Games Park and no prelims or semi’s, the pressure was ON. And the skaters rose to the occasion! But before we get into all of that and who ended up on podium…

We wanted to say how happy we were to hear Olympian skateboarder, Amelia Brodka, announcing Women’s Park. Amelia did a great job today, and we can only hope this is an ongoing situation - she brought a lot of her personal insight about the skaters, their lines and tricks to the broadcast. We have always said that we need knowledgeable female announcers and judges at the women’s events, so maybe the tide is turning! You can catch her announcing debut in the videos below. Congrats Amelia!

OK, now back to the comp.

Last summer’s X Games gold medalist, Sky Brown, took the first gold medal of the day in Women’s Skateboard Park. Brown claimed first after her second run, which included a frontside 360 over the box, frontside stale air in the deep end, alley-oop over the gap, backside air, backside lipslide, frontside Ollie transfer, invert, kickflip Indy over the box, Crail, backside Smith, nosegrab 540 on the hip, Smith grind to frontside 540. Sky becomes the second athlete to win two X Games gold medals before the age of 15. X Games Chiba Park gold medalist Sakura Yosozumi took silver, and Cocona Hiraki rounded off the podium with bronze.

Sakura took a bad fall on her last run and was helped out of the bowl by medics, so we are glad to see she is doing OK and was able to be awarded her silver medal!

Bryce Wettstein ~ Photo Rich Storry ESPN

USA Team riders Bryce Wettstein and Minna Stess solidly held onto their 4th and 5th place spots and were charging hard. The Japanese skaters who have dominated for a while now may want to watch their backs because Bryce was dialed in as usual, and Minna had a variety of tricks and combos that were very different than we saw just a few months ago at X Games Chiba. Add all that to her awesome style when she executes those tricks, and we don’t doubt that she will be on that podium soon!
